Open year-round, Voyageurs National Park spans 218,000 acres in northern Minnesota with opportunities to paddle, fish, camp, snowmobile, and experience some of the darkest skies in the country.

Visitor Information

Know before you go

Voyageurs National Park has no entrance fee.

Rainy Lake Visitor Center (12 miles from International Falls) is the main visitor center that offers exhibits, trail maps, a staffed information desk, a gift shop, children’s activities, and a park film theater.

 

Much of Voyageurs National Park is only accessible by water. Explore by boat, canoe, kayak, houseboat, or water taxi. Bring your own boat or rent locally; houseboats are a popular way to experience Rainy Lake. 

 

Voyageurs offers 145+ designated campsites, with 46 tent sites on Rainy Lake.

Reservations/permits are required for both tent campsites and houseboat sites and must be made in advance at Recreation.gov.

Voyageurs National Park

Voyageurs National Park was established for its spectacular scenery, rich natural resources, and vibrant history. The park encompasses four large lakes and the remote Kabetogama Peninsula. It includes key crossroads in the waterway trade network plied by the voyageurs the park is named after.

Hours

Rainy Visitor Center is the only VNP center open year-round:

Summer hours (late May – Sept), visitor centers run 7 days/week, approx. 9 a.m.–5 p.m.

Winter hours (Nov 14 – Mar 30) are 10 a.m.–4 p.m. on Fri–Mon.

Park Programs & Boat Tours

From mid-June to late September, boat tours and ranger-led programs are available for visitors to enjoy! You can experience programs throughout the entire park. Boat tours will depart from various locations, including Rainy Lake, Kabetogama Lake, and Ash River Visitor Centers.
