Like many of you, we’re closely monitoring the wildfires burning across northern Minnesota and Canada. Our thoughts are with the communities that have been impacted and the firefighters and emergency personnel working tirelessly to protect lives, homes, businesses, and our beautiful forests.
Current Conditions
Updated: 7/16/26
Wildfires are burning in portions of northeastern Minnesota and Ontario. At this time, the International Falls, Rainy Lake, and Voyageurs National Park area is experiencing only minimal impacts from wildfire smoke. Visitors may notice a faint smoky smell at times, but visibility has remained good and outdoor recreation continues.
Recent wind patterns have carried the heaviest smoke south toward Duluth and the Twin Cities. While the Rainy Lake area has experienced minimal smoke impacts, air quality conditions can still fluctuate throughout the day and may be affected by changing wind patterns. Visitors, especially those who are sensitive to smoke, should check current air quality conditions before and during their trip. Resources below links below.
Campfire Ban in Voyageurs National Park
Visitors should be aware that Voyageurs National Park currently has a campfire ban in effect due to elevated fire danger. Campfires are prohibited until further notice. If you’re planning a visit, please follow all posted fire restrictions and recreate responsibly to help protect this incredible landscape.
Stay Informed
Wildfire conditions and air quality can change rapidly. We encourage all visitors to check official resources for the latest information before traveling and throughout their stay.
